Life by Melton Hill Lake

Looking up stream on Melton Hill Lake near Oak Ridge on sunny day

Melton Hill Lake is an excellent location for owning a lakefront property. One of the most attractive features of this lake is its vast size, with a shoreline that extends for over 170 miles. Whether you want to indulge in boating, fishing, or just relax by the shore, there is no shortage of space to do so. Furthermore, the lake is surrounded by the magnificent Smoky Mountains, which means you can wake up to breathtaking views every single day.

Melton Hill Lake is situated between Anderson and Loudon County and is home to the Melton Hill Dam. The dam plays a crucial role in producing electricity and ensuring a reliable water supply. Since flood control is not the primary focus of the dam, the water level fluctuates by only about five feet annually, which means residents get to enjoy stunning views throughout the year.

Melton Hill Lake is also home to an elite rowing course. In 1981, it hosted the Pan America Canoe and Kayak Championships, and today it is highly regarded by the United States Olympic Committee as a prime spot for training American Olympic-caliber rowers.
