Exploring Melton Hill Lake: Scenic Trails, Fishing Spots, and Community Events

Located in East Tennessee, Melton Hill Lake blends natural beauty with recreational access. Spanning over 5,600 acres, this TVA-managed reservoir was created in 1963 for power generation and flood control—but today, it’s known for its accessible shoreline, outdoor trails, and vibrant local events.

Fishing is one of the lake’s biggest attractions. The waters are home to bass, catfish, crappie, and other popular sport fish, making it an ideal spot for both experienced anglers and casual weekend fishers. Public boat ramps around the lake provide convenient access, so it’s easy to get out on the water.

The Melton Lake Greenway offers 4.5 miles of paved, lakeside trail perfect for walking, running, or cycling. With shaded spots, benches, and beautiful views of the water, it’s one of the most scenic stretches in the region. Several nearby parks make it easy to turn a walk into a full day outdoors.

Throughout the year, Melton Hill Lake is home to various events—from triathlons and community festivals to fireworks and fishing competitions. The mix of natural beauty and community energy is what keeps people coming back.
