DOUGLAS LAKE

Douglas Dam
Douglas Dam on the French Broad River

Douglas Lake located in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains.

Formed from the French Broad River, Douglas Lake consists of 30,400 acres of water surface and 555 miles of shoreline. The lake offers many coves to enjoy and never gives you that over-crowed feeling. The best thing about Douglas Lake’s location is its close proximity to the action packed attractions of Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, Sevierville, and the Great Smoky Mountain National Park.

Douglas Lake provides fishermen with hefty catches of Sauger (Feb-March) in the river from Hwy 25 bridge upstream, Largemouth Bass (April-May), and Crappie (Usually March-May).   A honeycomb of wide, shallow embayments attract the crappie in huge numbers during the spring spawning season, occasionally earlier. Excellent fishing for White Bass (Feb-March), mid-April in the headwaters and Bluegill (April-Oct.).

Douglas Headwater Campground offers 53 sites located at Douglas Dam, no reservations required.  Open from April-October, restroom facilities are adjacent to a free public boating launching ramp, a swimming beach as well as a free picnic area with shelter.
